Android is introducing a broader developer verification system to make app distribution safer while preserving develop

What Google Play developers need to do
If you publish through Google Play, open your Play Console and review the Android developer verification status of every app. Register any application that was not completed automatically before September 30, 2026.

New APIs for automated registration

The Android Developer Console API is intended to register and manage package names from development environments and CI/CD pipelines.
OAuth delegation will also allow authorised third-party platforms, including app stores, to perform relevant registration operations on a developer’s behalf.

Does this end Android sideloading?
No. Android states that advanced users will retain a route for installing apps from unverified developers through an advanced flow containing security checkpoints. Android Debug Bridge (ADB) also remains an installation option. The purpose is to add informed friction against scams, not to eliminate every form of sideloading.
